ITNY's cultural exchange program holds workshops and produces theatre around the globe, broadening its artistic scope by incorporating newly discovered techniques and insights from a variety of cultural influences.
IT New York offers specially-designed intensive acting workshops around the world. The workshops usually run for two weeks, Monday through Friday for six to eight hours of class time a day. However, the workshops' focus and scheduling can be tailored to specific requests, including one-week and weekend workshops. The intensive training includes scene work, monologue work, sense-memory and other exercises. The workshops are taught by Artistic Director Robert Castle, except for those given in Spanish speaking countries, which are taught by Associate Artistic Director Alejandra Orozco.

Acting Technique:
Robert Castle has integrated theatrical materials and acting techniques from around the world including the practices and theories of Strasberg and Stanislavski.
The workshop is designed to:
1). Eradicate stereotypes about The Method.
2). Give the actor the tools to be inspired every time s/he works.
3). Familiarize the actor with techniques such as relaxation, sense memory, substitution/ transformation and imagined experience.
Robert Castle, having studied under the tutelage of Lee Strasberg himself, is an actor and director. He is a highly sought-after acting coach at the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City, and has performed in or directed hundreds of plays, films and videos in New York and Los Angeles. He has more than twenty years of professional collaboration with such modern luminaries as Charles Durning, Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda, Angie Dickenson, Jeannie Berlin, George Segal, Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff Goldblum.
Throughout the ten-day training, Mr. Castle will address the various myths about the Method. He will also use his meticulous training style in layering each actor's prior training (no matter what style) onto the Method technique, engaging the actor in a process leading to a total connection to the character, the circumstances and the dilemma. The actor then arrives at the point where the ego and self-consciousness evaporate, the imagination is freed, and the character is fully embodied.
The workshop will be an intimate setting of about 14 people and it is designed for each actor to receive constant and concentrated attention. It is Robert's goal to take each actor from where s/he is and to nurture them and provide them with tools to foster growth. He is meticulous in his training, as well as in pointing out each actor's strong points and areas that need work. Further, he offers practical tools to help the actor strengthen those weak areas as s/he prepares to work.
Robert is quoted in saying "When we have trained to the point where the character's behavior becomes spontaneous and unconscious, we can become more creative than we ever thought possible, because the imaginative impulse will be unconscious and experiential rather than merely mental. At this point the actor's performance can take flight." It is tapping into the actor's hidden world of creativity and imaginative impulse that leads the actor to the pinnacle of the Method technique: to be highly inspired in every performance.
During the workshop, the actor will be engrossed in an intense training environment over the course of ten days. Mr. Castle will engage the actor in a very detailed relaxation technique, which he developed, to strengthen the actor's ability to achieve creative states of being: mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, that can be applied in different ways to both film and stage acting.

| What the Students are Saying |
|
|
"What I liked most about the workshop was the honesty of Robert's coaching method; the thoroughness of each exercise; as well as the time spent discovering how to make it my own...He cuts right to the heart of everything with no excess explanations."
--Cheryl Tanner, Houston

"I prefer to do a workshop with Robert, wherever it is, and invest myself completely, than to take lessons here and there continually - because to get further in acting you need someone who guides you the right way, and you need to feel free enough to stumble and fall and then get up and try again.
Robert gives you roles that do not necessarily fit your 'type', but that make you grow. So you can have the worst time of your life trying to achieve
something you think you'll never 'be', and then end up with a glimpse of what it could be, or even more. Then you realize that you've grown."
--Anja Bourdais, Paris

"I am now experiencing tremendous freedom in my acting, the whole process of how to approach a character, how to work with it in rehearsal, how to explore the atmosphere and your fellow actors and I owe many great thanks to Robert Castle's guidance for this. I find him the best acting teacher I have ever had because of his ability to take people and help them grow from where they are individually."
