About Us

IT New York is Actors. It New York is Directors. Artists working towards a common goal of perfecting a technique built on the principals of Strasberg and Stanislavski but free from the limitations and stereotypes commonly associated with “The Method.”

We experiment. We keep the things that work and modify the thing that don’t. We find solutions to the problems faced by the modern professional that were not addressed by our predecessors. Our studio is an acting laboratory where student and teacher work as partners creating and refining individual craft as well as technique. We invent.

A successful actor never stops learning, never stops training. You are constantly reinventing yourself and experimenting with new techniques and ideas. Your life is a journey through many lives, countries, situations and experiences. It never ends. That is what sustains your career. A succesful technique must do the same. It must adapt to face new challenges in the craft, new technologies, new forms of material, new mediums, etc.

At IT New York we are dedicated to this journey.

After more than twenty years of professional collaboration with such modern luminaries as Jeff Goldblum, Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, Charles Durning, Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda, Angie Dickenson, Jeannie Berlin and George Segal, Artistic Director Robert Castle and Alejandra Orozco founded IT New York in order to integrate theatrical materials and acting techniques from around the world with the techniques and theories of Strasberg and Stanislavski, developing a modern craft for the contemporary actor.

Comprising a performance group and a training school for actors and directors, IT New York brings together professionals and students from a variety of cultural backgrounds to create a truly international theatre, performing works rarely seen on American shores. IT New York’s cultural exchange program holds workshops and produces theatre around the globe, broadening its artistic scope by incorporating newly discovered techniques and insights from a variety of cultural influences.

Acting Studio

What makes a great actor?

The actor must truthfully and organically experience the role and must be theatrically exciting.

Acting classes at IT New York are taught by experienced professionals who work with and have taught many important actors in films and theatre. The training evolves out of the work of Stanislavski, Strasberg, Feury, and others. It combines and goes beyond the two great traditions of acting: the organic (Stanislavski-based) and the theatrical (classically-based).
