L'ÉVOLUTION D'UNE TECHNIQUE

Robert Castle et Alejandra Orozco créent International Theatre New York (IT New York) dans leur théâtre du Meetpacking District de Manhattan en 1999. À ce moment-là Robert Castle, acteur, metteur en scène et professeur au Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, et Alejandra Orozco, actrice de théâtre primée, pratiquent et enseignent tous deux activement la "Method ".
Ancrée dans le travail de Stanislavski et développée par les pionniers du Group Theatre et de l'Actors' Studio - Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler et Sanford Meisner - la "Method" reste la technique dominante pour les acteurs aux États-Unis. Tous les acteurs de la Method sont formés pour créer la vie du personnage en utilisant leurs sens propres afin de produire une réalité pour eux-mêmes et pour le public. L'acteur intègre son propre vécu pour stimuler cette réalité.

"Nous sentions qu’il fallait aller plus loin. La question de savoir si la Method avait toujours la même pertinence pour les acteurs que nous sommes aujourd’hui s’est naturellement posée. Nous avons cherché, travaillé d’arrache-pied. L’élément manquant s’est avéré essentiel : le vécu du personnage, par opposition au vécu de l’acteur.
A partir de là, nous sommes rentrés dans le vif du sujet. Nous avons constitué une troupe d’acteurs et commencé à expérimenter. Déconstruire. Découvrir. Se perdre. Repartir à zéro. Trouver. Ne rien refuser. Le cœur de notre travail s’est inscrit dans une démarche évidente. Certes complexe, mais qui répond à ce que tout acteur rêve d’atteindre : avoir l’âme du personnage."
Depuis, La Castle-Orozco Acting Technique regroupe des exercices aboutis comme Imagined Experience© et Image Work© qui répondent aux exigences de l’acteur, que ce soit au théâtre ou au cinéma.

Robert Castle

Directeur artistique

D'abord élève de Lee Strasberg et Peggy Feury au Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute de New York communément appelé l’Actors Studio, Robert Castle entre à l'Université de Californie pour y poursuivre un cursus de cinéma. Les films écrits et réalisés par Robert Castle remportent un grand nombre de prix (Fine Arts Gold Medal, Silver Star Sacramento International Film Festival, Frank Glicksman Award, Peter Stark Award, Chicago International Film Festival). Il a mis en scène plus d'une quarantaine d’œuvres théâtrales à New York et Los Angeles et il a collaboré en tant qu’acteur avec un grand nombre d'artistes tels Sean Penn, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jane Fonda, entre autres. Robert Castle est par la suite devenu l’un des professeurs pilier du Lee Strasberg Institute pendant 14 ans. Avec Alejandra Orozco, il a fait évoluer la fameuse "Method", inspirée de Stanislavski, Strasberg, Meisner et Adler en lui faisant prendre de nouvelles directions pour devenir une technique d’entraînement et de formation totale de l’acteur, aujourd’hui plébiscitée.

Alejandra Orozco

Codirectrice artistique

La comédienne et metteur en scène mexicaine Alejandra Orozco est issue d'une famille d'artistes, elle est la fille du peintre muraliste Mario Orozco Rivera et la sœur de l'artiste contemporain Gabriel Orozco. Elle a tenu un grand nombre de rôles principaux à New York et dans le monde. Elle a reçu le ACE Award et le HOLA Award de la Meilleure Comédienne en 2000, 2001, 2004 et 2006, le HOLA Award et ACE Award du Meilleur Metteur en scène en 2003. Elle a étudié l'art dramatique au Conservatoire National de Mexico ainsi qu'à l'Université Nationale de Mexico dont elle est lauréate, avant d'être récipiendaire de la Donation Nationale du Mexique pour l'avancement professionnel à l'étranger. Elle a ensuite rejoint New York où elle a suivi le cursus complet du Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. En tant que cofondatrice de International Theatre New York, Alejandra a produit, et continue de produire, un grand nombre de pièces aux côtés de Robert Castle.

Gustavo Nunes

Brazil Producer

Gustavo Nunes has worked as a producer since 2003. A graduate of both Law and ​Drama schools, he also earned a Master in Business Administration at Fundação Getulio Vargas, in Rio de Janeiro. Gustavo has realized over 30​ nation-wide musicals and theatre productions in Brazil, ​with some of the most prestigious artists in the country. His productions​
have been nominated for the most important awards, such as SHELL, APCA, FITA​ and APTR.

Gustavo ​published "VESTINDO NELSON,” a book ​about the work of Nelson Rodrigues, a distinguished Brazilian playwright. T​hrough TURBILHÃO DE IDEIAS, Gustavo ​has built a partnership with international schools to bring the best acting teachers in the world to Brazil. Since 2007 he has worked with Robert Castle and Alejandra Orozco (ITNY) to produce workshops and lectures in the most important cities of Brazil.

Heiner Jay Mohnen

Europe Producer

Heiner J Mohnen, a German-American dual national, first pursued a career in diplomacy and international affairs. After completing his MFA in motion picture and television producing at the Peter Stark Program at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, he worked in development (Universal Studios) as well as in sales (Paramount Studios), handling contracts and collections for the Cannes and Mifed markets. Mohnen has since established himself as an independent producer, and completed a popular series of prime-time one-off specials for ABC Television that featured award-winning advertising from around the world.

Clara Andermantt

Portugal Producer

Considered to be one of the pioneers of the new Portuguese dance movement, Clara Andermatt’s career revealed, throughout the years, a particularly singular artistic identity in the national and international scene, leaving a mark in the history of Portuguese contemporary dance which brought her public recognition.

Anne Bérengére Pelluau

Coordinateur des projets France et Responsable Qualité

Anne-Bérengère Pelluau a étudié l'art dramatique au Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute de New York avec, entre autres, Robert Castle comme professeur. Elle entre dans la compagnie International Theatre New York et travaille régulièrement avec Alejandra Orozco et Robert Castle. Elle revient ensuite en Europe et joue à Paris (Théâtre du Châtelet), à Bruxelles (Forest), au Théâtre National de Luxembourg, à Berlin et aux Etats-Unis. Depuis 2004, elle organise des stages en France pour IT New York.

Kirsten Russell

Special Workshops Coordinateur

Kirsten Russell began as an actress in Miami. After attending California Institute of the Arts she left for New York City. Kirsten spent many years performing off Broadway and made guest appearances on many TV series and starred in several critically acclaimed films. She wrote, produced and directed the short film, “Valentines,” and the award-winning feature film “Rabbit Stories.” She directed the six-time award-winning short “Universal Language,” and wrote and co-directed “Like Totally Hot Couple Seeking Same.” Kirsten has worked with numerous screenwriters in aiding them to compete their final drafts of both features and shorts. Kirsten has collaborated with Robert Castle and Alejandra Orozco on many productions and projects.

ALMUT MÖLK

Austria Coordinateur

Almut Mölk is originally from Innsbruck, Austria and studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York where she first met both Robert and Alejandra. After several years of gaining her first acting experiences in Off-Off Broadway shows and independent movies in the Big Apple she relocated to Vienna.
Over the past decade she has appeared in numerous theater productions as well as on television and the big screen. She also works as an acting coach and recently had a blast directing her first play.

MALGORZATA LIPMANN

Poland Coordinateur

Graduated from the Theatre Academy in Warsaw. Studied at the Lee Strasburg Institute in New York. She has more than 20 years of acting experience in theaters (Polski Theatre in Warsaw, Capitol Theatre in Warsaw), movies and TV in Poland. Teaches acting at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw (where she received a Phd degree), Warsaw Film School and runs workshops.
